Common Female Ancestor Test (mtDNA Test for males or females)

Our Common Female Ancestor Test examines a portion of the DNA which is passed from mother to child (mitochondrial DNA sequence). The portion of DNA examined is known as HVR-1. Everyone's DNA is almost identical in this portion, the differences are what indicate if you share a common female ancestor. By comparing your DNA sample to the Cambridge Reference Sample, we can tell you what differences you have. If you have the same genetic differences, known as mutations, as someone else than you have a common female ancestor. A number of these mutations also indicate what region of the world your female ancestors came from.

The process is simple. We will mail you a collection kit with cheek swabs to collect your DNA sample painlessly. Simply return the swabs to our lab and we will perform the test and issue results about four-to-six weeks later.
